Song finder at a glance
AHA Music's song finder identifies a song from four kinds of input: music playing nearby through the microphone, a hummed, whistled or sung melody, an uploaded audio or video file, or a public video link from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram or X. Fingerprint matching uses ACRCloud's catalogue of over 100 million tracks and needs about 5 seconds of audio; the humming engine recognises the melody alone, so it also finds the original behind a cover or live version.

Four ways to find a song
Pick the one that matches what you have
The song is playing right now
Press Record and hold the device near the speaker. About five seconds of audio is enough for a fingerprint match, even in a café or a car.
The song is stuck in your head
Switch to Hum mode and hum, whistle or sing the melody for ten seconds. The humming engine matches the tune, not the recording, so it also finds cover and live versions.
The song is in a file
Upload a voice memo, a concert video or a podcast. Quick scan identifies one song; Full Scan lists every song in the file with the time it starts.
The song is in a video online
Paste a YouTube, TikTok, Instagram Reels or X link. AHA Music fetches the audio and returns each song with a clickable timestamp.
Which song finder should I use?
| Situation | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Music in a shop, café, car or TV | Record | Fingerprinting matches the exact recording in seconds |
| Only the melody, no recording | Hum | Melody matching works from your voice alone |
| A cover, live or karaoke version | Hum / Cover | Fingerprints need the studio recording; the melody engine does not |
| A video on YouTube, TikTok or Instagram | Paste a link | No need to record the speaker; the audio is taken from the video |
| A long recording with several songs | Upload, Full Scan | Every song is listed with its position |
| Music playing in another browser tab | Browser extension | Captures the tab audio directly, no microphone |
Music playing in your browser?
The AHA Music extension for Chrome and Edge identifies the song playing in any tab with one click, no microphone needed.
Song finder FAQ
What it can and cannot do
How does an online song finder work?
It turns a few seconds of audio into an acoustic fingerprint, a compact summary of the spectrum over time, and looks that fingerprint up in a database of known recordings. AHA Music uses ACRCloud, whose catalogue covers more than 100 million tracks. Humming search works differently: it extracts the melody and compares it with melodies in the database.
How long does the clip have to be?
About 5 seconds of clear music is enough for a fingerprint match. Humming needs roughly 10 seconds of melody. Longer clips do not hurt, and the Full Scan on the upload page handles files of any length.
Can it find a song from a video link?
Yes. Paste a YouTube, YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram Reels or X link in the link tab. AHA Music fetches the audio from the video, so you do not need to play it out loud and record it.
Can it identify a cover or a live version?
Yes, in Hum / Cover mode. Fingerprint apps only match the studio recording; the melody engine recognises the composition, so a cover, acoustic or live version returns the original title and artist.
What if there is no match?
Try again with a clearer section (the chorus, less talking over the music) or switch to Hum mode. Very recent releases, unreleased tracks and some regional catalogues may be missing. The Who Sings This Song page lets you search by a lyric fragment as a last resort.
Is the song finder free? Do I need an account?
Recognition on the site is free with ads and needs no account, within a daily fair-use limit shown on the pricing page. A free account adds history and playlists; Pro removes ads and raises the limits.
Does AHA Music keep my recordings?
Recordings and uploaded files are processed for recognition and are not stored permanently. Signed-in users can keep the result (title and artist) in their history and delete it at any time.
Is this the same as Shazam?
The microphone mode works like Shazam. In addition, AHA Music runs in the browser without an app, identifies songs in files and video links with timestamps, finds covers and hummed melodies, and offers a Chrome and Edge extension for tab audio.
