What happens to each video format

The picture is copied as it is, so it keeps its resolution and quality. Only the sound is encoded again. Videos up to 400 MB keep their picture.

MP4 · MOV · M4V	Saved as MP4 with AAC sound (192 kbps). Plays on phones, in browsers and in editors.
MKV	Saved as MKV with AAC sound; the picture is untouched. Extra audio and subtitle tracks are not kept.
WEBM	Saved as WEBM with Vorbis sound, one of the two audio formats WEBM allows.
AVI · FLV · WMV · MPEG	The picture can't be kept for these here; the louder sound is saved as MP3, WAV or M4A.

How do I make a video louder?

Choose the video, keep Boost selected and move the slider or pick a preset; the suggested value brings a quiet clip to about -16 LUFS. Press Make it louder and download the video. Nothing is uploaded.

Does boosting the volume lower the video quality?

No. The picture is copied without re-encoding, so resolution and quality stay the same. Only the sound is encoded again, as 192 kbps AAC (Vorbis for WEBM).

Which video formats work?

MP4, MOV, M4V, MKV and WEBM up to 400 MB keep their picture. AVI, FLV, WMV, MPEG and larger files can still be opened, and their sound is saved as MP3, WAV or M4A.

Can I make a video quieter?

Yes. Move the slider below 100% (50% is about -6 dB) or choose Normalize with a target lower than the video's current loudness.

Will the sound distort if I boost it a lot?

Every boost goes through a limiter that keeps peaks under -1 dB, so it does not clip. On a video whose sound is already loud, a large boost flattens the loudest moments; the page warns you when that will happen. Background noise gets louder along with the voice.

How loud should a video be for YouTube or TikTok?

YouTube turns sound louder than about -14 LUFS down, so -14 LUFS is a good target for uploads. For speech and phone viewing -16 LUFS is a safe choice.

Is my video uploaded? Is it free?

No upload: the engine (ffmpeg) is downloaded once and runs in your browser, so the video never leaves your device. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark.

Can I increase the volume of a YouTube or TikTok video by link?

Not here: the tool works on a file on your device. Download the video first, or use the song finder's link scan if you only want to know which song is playing.
